نعى رئيس دولة الإمارات الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان، الأربعاء، عمه الشيخ طحنون بن محمد آل نهيان، ممثل الحاكم في منطقة العين بإمارة أبوظبي، وتم إعلان الحداد الرسمي 7 أيام.
ونقلت وكالة الأنباء الإماراتية عن بيان لديوان الرئاسة إن “الشيخ محمد بن زايد ينعى بقلوب مؤمنة بقضاء الله وقدره عمه المغفور له الشيخ طحنون بن محمد آل نهيان، ممثل الحاكم في منطقة العين، الذي انتقل إلى جوار ربه اليوم”.
وأضاف البيان أن ديوان الرئاسة “يعلن الحداد الرسمي (على روح الشيخ طحنون) وتنكيس الأعلام لمدة سبعة أيام اعتبارا من اليوم”.
وحسب ديوان ممثل الحاكم في منطقة العين، كان الشيخ طحنون من القلة القليلة التي كان لها شرف مرافقة مؤسس دولة الإمارات المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان ، وذلك منذ نعومة أظفاره، حيث نهل الخبرة العملية والمعرفية منه.
وأضاف أن الراحل كان من ضمن العاملين معه على المشروع الاتحادي العظيم، الذي توج في 2 ديسمبر/ كانون الأول 1971 بإعلان تأسيس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة عبر اتحاد سبع إمارات.
وتولى الراحل العديد من المناصب السياسية طوال مسيرته العملية، أبرزها تعيينه وزيرا للبلديات والزراعة عام 1971، ثم ممثلا للحاكم بمنطقة العين في أغسطس/ آب من العام نفسه، كما ترأس شركة بترول أبوظبي الوطنية “أدنوك” في 1973.
