تسلم إيال زامير، منصب رئيس أركان الجيش الإسرائيلي خلفا للمستقيل هرتسي هاليفي الذي قاد حرب الإبادة الجماعية بحق الفلسطينيين في قطاع غزة لأكثر من 15 شهرا.
وعقدت مراسم رسمية لتنصيب زامير بمقر وزارة الدفاع الإسرائيلية في تل أبيب، بحضور رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو، وقائد المنطقة الوسطى بالجيش مايكل كوريلا، الذي لوحظ رفضه إلقاء كلمة.
وقال نتنياهو بهذه المناسبة: “لقد غيرنا وجه الشرق الأوسط والمستقبل سيأتي”، في إشارة إلى نيته استئناف الحرب على غزة وذلك بعدما تنصل من الالتزام باتفاق وقف إطلاق النار مع “حماس” ومحاولته الالتفاف على بعض بنوده.
وأضاف: “نحن في خضم حملة طويلة، حرب تشن على 7 جبهات، سيكون لنتائجها معنى لأجيال”.
وجدد وعوده المتكررة منذ بدء الحرب على غزة في 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2023 بتحقيق أهداف الحرب بالكامل.
وأكد أن أهداف الحرب هي “القضاء على قدرات حماس العسكرية والحكومية”، وعودة الأسرى الإسرائيليين المحتجزين بغزة، و”إحباط أي تهديد مستقبلي من غزة إلى إسرائيل”، وعودة المستوطنين إلى المستوطنات التي أخلوها خلال الحرب.
من جهته، أعلن هاليفي في كلمته خلال المراسم تحمله مسؤولية الفشل بصد الهجوم الذي شنته حركة “حماس” على مستوطنات وقواعد عسكرية محاذية لغزة في 7 أكتوبر 2023.
بدوره، هدد وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي الجديد بالعودة إلى الحرب “بعنف” إذا لم تفرج حماس عن الأسرى المحتجزين في غزة.
