طالب الرئيس الفلسطيني محمود عباس الاثنين في خطاب في الأمم المتحدة بمناسبة ذكرى النكبة الخامسة والسبعين، بـتعليق عضوية إسرائيل في المنظمة على خلفية إعتدائها على الفلسطينيين وإحتلالها أراضي فلسطينية.
للمرة الأولى، وبفضل قرار صدر في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر، تحيي الأمم المتحدة الاثنين في مقرها بنيويورك ذكرى نكبة الفلسطينيين التي بدأت في 15 أيار/مايو 1948 غداة إعلان قيام دولة إسرائيل.
وقال عباس في خطاب أستمر ساعة “نطالب رسمياً، ووفقاً للقانون الدولي وقرارات الشرعية الدولية بإلزام إسرائيل بإحترام قراراتكم هذه، أو تعليق عضويتها في الأمم المتحدة”.
جاء خطاب رئيس السلطة الفلسطينية الذي تتمتع دولته فلسطين بصفة مراقب في الأمم المتحدة، خلال جلسة خاصة للجنة حقوق الشعب الفلسطيني غير القابلة للتصرف بحضور عشرات من السفراء لدى الأمم المتحدة.
وقد إتهم عباس إسرائيل بكونها “لم تفِ بإلتزامات قبول عضويتها في منظمتكم” منذ إعلان قيامها في 14 أيار/مايو 1948 بعد تصويت الأمم المتحدة في 29 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1947 لصالح تقسيم فلسطين إلى دولتين يهودية وعربية.
وأشار الرئيس الفلسطيني إلى إتخاذ المنظمة الدولية عبر السنين مئات القرارات التي تُقِر بحقوق الشعب الفلسطيني الثابتة في وطنه، ألف قرار تقريباً لكن “لم يطبق أي منها .
وأضاف عباس مستنكرا النكبة لم تبدأ في العام 1948، كما أنها لم تنته بعد هذا العام .. فإسرائيل، الدولة القائمة بالاحتلال، لا تزال تواصل إحتلالها وعدوانها على الشعب الفلسطيني، ولا تزال تتنكر لهذه النكبة، وترفض قرارات الشرعية الدولية القاضية بعودة اللاجئين الفلسطينيين .
وتقدّر الأمم المتحدة أن الفلسطينيين الذين أجبروا على مغادرة أراضيهم عام 1948 يشكلون مع أحفادهم 5,9 ملايين لاجئ منتشرين في الضفة الغربية المحتلة وقطاع غزة والأردن ولبنان وسوريا.
وقد شكّل النزوح الجماعي في 15 أيار/مايو 1948 نكبة يحيي الفلسطينيون ذكراها كل عام، بينما يحتفل الإسرائيليون بقيام دولتهم في 14 أيار/مايو 1948.
