علن يوم الأربعاء، عن وفاة مادلين أولبرايت، أول سيدة تتولى حقيبة الخارجية الأميركية، بعد معاناة مع المرض.
وقالت أسرة الراحلة، في بيان على تويتر إن أولبرايت توفيت اليوم عن 84 عاما، متأثرة بإصابتها بمرض السرطان.
وولدت مادلين كوربل أولبرايت فى 15 مايو 1937، وإسمها ماري آنا كوربولوفا، وتنتمي إلى الحزب الديمقراطي.
كما كانت أول إمرأة تتسلم منصب وزير الخارجية في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، بعد أن سماها الرئيس بيل كلينتون في 5 ديسمبر 1996 لهذا المنصب لتكون وزير خارجية فترته الرئاسية الثانية، وتسلمت المنصب في 23 يناير 1997 لتصبح وزير الخارجية الرابع والستين للولايات المتحدة، وظلت في منصبها حتى 20 يناير 2001.
