قرر الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان رئيس الإمارات تقديم 100 مليون دولار لإغاثة المتضررين من الزلزال في سوريا وتركيا. وتشمل المبادرة تقديم 50 مليون دولار للمتضررين من الزلازل من الشعب السوري إضافة إلى 50 مليون دولار إلى الشعب التركي، إلى جانب طائرات إغاثة تحمل أطنان من الأدوية والمستلزمات وفريق من المختصين من رجال الإنقاذ والطواقم الطبية .
وقالت وكالة أنباء الإمارات : تجسد المبادرة الجهود الإنسانية التي تضطلع بها دولة الإمارات على الساحة الدولية ونهجها في مد يد العون والمساعدة إلى المجتمعات الشقيقة والصديقة في مختلف الظروف.
وكان زلزال بقوة 7ر7 درجات على مقياس ريختر قد ضرب جنوب شرق تركيا في المنطقة الحدودية مع سوريا صباح يوم الاثنين، تبعه زلزال آخر بقوة 5ر7 درجات على مقياس ريختر، ما أسفر عن خسائر بشرية ومادية هائلة.
